Our story begins over a century ago in Malaysia. It is the story of an extraordinary woman—my grandmother. In 1924, she faced the hardest of times with a quiet, unwavering determination, selling nasi lemak to support and protect her family.

She was the embodiment of resilience. She proved that you can build a life of dignity and grace through sheer will. Her spirit is the heartbeat of this brand.

A Name with Double Meaning

The name MOOI was chosen to honor her in two languages:

• In Dutch, it means "Beautiful."

• In Cantonese, it echoes “妹” (Mooi)—my grandmother’s name.

We named our brand MOOI MOOI (Beautiful Beautiful) because we believe beauty is a double affirmation: it is the grace we find in the world and the strength we carry within. Like a gemstone formed under immense pressure, we believe true beauty emerges when we are tested.

The Jade Thread

If you look closely at our brand, you will see a specific, serene shade of green. This is our Jade Thread.

Throughout her life, my grandmother was never without her jade bracelet. It was a part of her soul. It clicked softly against the table as she poured tea; it caught the light as she reached out to offer a hand. It was a symbol of protection, longevity, and a love that never faded.

Today, that green serves as a constant remembrance of her. We didn’t start MOOI MOOI to add more "things" to your jewelry box—we started it to create your "Jade Bracelet." That one piece you never take off; the piece that becomes a part of your own history.
